ABOUT THE PLAY

Set within a contemporary political context, the play opens as Duncan the First Minister is celebrating a narrowly won victory in a by-election.

There are hints that there had been dirty dealings behind the scenes orchestrated by the party’s Chief Whip, Macbeth, but nobody can prove it.

Wary of Macbeth’s character, Duncan makes Malcolm his deputy and successor, thus incensing Macbeth and his ambitious wife, Libby.

Their plans for the leadership thwarted, they plot to seize power by other means…
